"Animaniacs" is a cartoon from Steven Spielberg/Amblin Entertainment,
Warner Brothers and Fox Television, the same group that brought you
"Tiny Toon Adventures". Many of the people that worked on TTA
(Sherri Stoner, Tom Ruegger, Tress MacNeille, etc.) are working on
Animaniacs.
Animaniacs first aired on Monday, Sept 13th 1993 on Fox in what used to be
the TTA time-slot. A full season of 65 episodes (none have yet been lost
to the BS&P) is in the process of being aired on Fox television and its
afiliated stations. Five of these episodes are not going to air until
May.
News:
-----
The Fox network can be reached by e-mail: foxnet@delphi.com
The last "official" FTP site for Animaniacs images, garfield.catt.ncsu.edu
has had a few changes. Firstly, garfield is no longer an FTP server.
The new server is ftp.catt.ncsu.edu, but alas, the Animaniacs images
did not survive the transition. Many of them were screen captures, and
as the .message says:
"Pornographic, copyrighted, or illegal materials are not permitted."
Screen captures are considered copyrighted material and because permission
to distribute these images has not been granted, distribution of such
images could be illegal too.
There is a binary newsgroup for the distribution of cartoon related images:
alt.binaries.pictures.cartoons. Please do not post binaries to
alt.tv.animaniacs and be careful when posting any file over 32K in size.
Merchandise:
------------
To order the Warner Bros. Merchandise Catalog, call or write:
Warner Bros. Catalog
PO Box 60048
Tampa, FL
33660-0048
If you might want to call 1-800-223-6524. It even works in Canada!
The operator said, however, that it will be 4 weeks before I get it.
Maybe calling will simply add you to their mailing list?
Rhino Records has recently released an Animaniacs CD and tape. If you don't
see it in your local store (it is available at many stores in the USA)
it can be ordered by calling Rhino directly:
1-800-432-0020 toll-free inside continental USA
1-310-474-4778 for customer service or foreign orders
Catalog Numbers:
R2 71570 - Limited edition "blister" CD with temporary tattoos
R2 71571 - Regular CD, nothing special
R4 71571 - Cassette
Your local music store should be able to place a special order with this
information if you don't want to order by phone.
The complete lyrics to the songs on the album are included with both
the CD and cassette. The CD has some things that the tape doesn't,
notably a Dot model sheet printed on the CD itself and some come with
a sheet of temporary tattoos! Fun for the whole family, but why share? :-)
The album contains:
1 Animaniacs * Yakko's Universe * Schnitzelbank * What Are We?
Yes, Brothers Warner We * Yakko's World * Wakko's America
Video Revue * I Am The Very Model of a Cartoon Invididual
2 I'm Mad * The Planets * The Etiquette Song * I'm Cute * The Senses
Be Careful What You Eat * Let The Anvils Ring * Animaniacs (instrumental)
There have been many complaints about low signal level. However, there
have also been people who are wondering why all these people are
complaining since nothing appears sound wrong with the album.
A number of shirts are available in the USA at the Warner Bros. Studio Stores.
Some of these stores will send items by mail. A list of stores is posted
to alt.tv.animaniacs on a semi-regular basis by Will Bell.

Frequently Asked Questions:
---------------------------
1. "What does Animaniacs abbreviate to?"
There is no official standard abbreviation for Animaniacs. Many have been
proposed but few have caught on. You are welcome to use one of your own
creation provided you don't post about abbreviations.
2. "Wraparound scmraparound. It's all filler!"
Many segments of the show are being considered "filler" and the argument of
the validity of this claim has consumed many megabytes of network
bandwidth. If you would like to continue the discussion, voice your
support for alt.fan.filler!

THX1138 was George Lucas' college project, which was later made into a

"Is that Hamton or Porky Pig on the desk?"
The alt.tv.animaniacs consensus is that it is Hamton. His ears appear to be
longer than Porky's ever were.

"Animaniacs"
It's time for An-i-man-i-acs
And we're zany to the max
So just sit back and relax
You'll laugh till you collapse
We're An-i-man-i-acs!
Come join the Warner brothers
And the Warner sister Dot
Just for fun we run around the Warner movie lot
They lock us in the tower whenever we get caught
But we break loose...
And then vamoose...
And now you know the plot!
We're An-i-man-i-acs
Dot is cute and Yakko yaks
Wakko packs away the snacks
While Bill Clinton plays the sax
We're An-i-man-i-acs!
Meet Pinky and the Brain, who want to rule the universe
Goodfeathers flock together, Slappy whacks 'em with her purse
Buttons chases Mindy, while Rita sings a verse
The writers flipped, we have no script, why bother to rehearse?
We're An-i-man-i-acs
We have pay or play(+) contracts
We're zany to the max
There's baloney in our slacks
We're An-i-man-ee

"Chicken Boo"
Chicken Boo, what's the matter with you?
You don't act like the other chickens do
You wear a disguise to look like human guys(+)
But you're not a man, you're a chicken, Boo
Frequently Disputed Lyrics:
---------------------------
"Animaniacs" -- "We have pay or play contracts" vs. "pay for play"
Reasons:
- It is printed as "pay or play" in the CD booklet.
- Sally Smith spoke with a director who said it was "or"
- A "pay or play" contract is a real thing. Such a contract means that
the holder will get paid wether or not their part is shown (in Hollywood)
or that the player will get paid even if they are not played (in
Football). Logically, it should be a "pay even without play" contract,
but it isn't.
"Chicken Boo" -- "You wear a disguise to look like human guys"
vs. "...look like human guise"
Reasons:
- "guys" makes sense: Chicken Boo is disguising himself as a person.
- "guise" is not correct syntactically, or even logically.
Translation Dept:
-----------------
And for those who are not fluent in Japanese, here's Yakko's short
conversation with Mr. Kato:
Yakko: Tokyo wa tottemo omoshiroi tokoro desu ne?
<Tokyo is an extremely interesting place, isn't it.>
Investor: Zehi irasshite kudasai.
<By all means, please visit.>
Yakko: Mada iki basho ga areba ne.
<If there's still room for me there, eh?>
(Yakko's last remark appears to be an in-joke among Tokyo natives,
referring to the crowded conditions.)
"Froinleven" is not a real word. Although it may sound German, do not let
it deceive you! It was specially designed by Jerry Lewis to have a
sedating effect, presumably part of one of Brain's plans to Take Over
The World.
Official Terminology:
---------------------
Cold Opener: A short animated sequence _before_ the opening song. For example,
the `Flipper' parody.
End Tag: The closing or parting shot of the water tower and lines. This
is the same as the "That's all folks!" from the Looney Tunes
shows.
Wacky Sack: Wakko's incredible omnipresent all inclusive prop bag. Also
called a "Gag Bag" by Yakko.
Wraparounds: Short segments placed between shorts and advertising.
Local Terminology:
------------------
The Variable Verse: The line in the theme song which changes.
(e.g. "How Urbaney", "Here's the show's namey")
Filler: Used to describe The Newsreel of the Stars and any other
piece of animation not listed in the sacred AFEL and assumed
to be put in the show to kill time.
Proof: Something which is never presented, yet is supposed to prove
the unbelievable.

Show Credits:
-------------
Kathryn Page is, as listed in the credits, an assitant to the producer.
Each episode, there is a joke credit listed. Look carefully and you
might see something like:
Lemming Herder
----------------
Kathryn Page
Kathryn Page is officially "assistant to producer" which would make her
something like Tom Ruegger's secretary. This is a joke credit, and
doesn't have anything to do with reality, except perhaps for "Tired of
These Credits"...
The Warners:
------------
The Warners are not to be confused with the Two Tones. Here's a few
reasons if you still have any doubts:
The Warners:
* live in the Warner Brothers water tower
* are not a recognizable species
* have distinct ears and non-bushy tails
* wear coloured clothing
* are not black and white (Warners have red noses!)
* are zany
* are out of control
The Two Tones (Foxy & Roxy):
* Live in Two Tone Town, a suburb of Acme Acres
* are foxes
* have fox-like ears
* were "drawn in shades of gray"
* are generally predictable
* are usually quiet
The Warners do not fall into any general species category. They are not dogs,
cats, llamas, puppy-children, or even skunks. A complicated explanation is
that they are styled after the 1930's characters which were not meant to
be any species at all, only a humanized `inkblot' of sorts. If you want
the simple explanation, they're Warners (or just plain cute). One thing's
for sure: the Warners are very good at irritating people in the show.
Animaniacs, unlike the Tiny Toon Adventures episode of a similar name, does
NOT end with an exclamation point (!). Animaniacs is in no obvious way
related to "Animaniacs!".
Acronyms:
